Review: SpruKits Master Chief Model

This review of the Master Chief model kit by SpruKits was originally posted on HaloCollectors.com and its sister site, SpartanSwag.com. The archived review can now be seen here. CLICK HERE to see the full review!
SpruKits has obtained the Halo license, and several new model kits have been announced. These model kits don’t require any cutting, gluing, or painting. The pieces snap together easily and snugly. This review will cover the level 2 Master Chief model kit, which consists of 109 pieces. It is based off the character model from Halo 4. The box is standard for a model kit, showing some of the components, and what the finished product should look like. The back shows the difficulty scale, time estimate, and other models in the Halo line.

Inside the box, the plastic pieces all come attached on cards/sheets packed in a plastic bag. The instruction poster folds out and has a diagram showing where all the parts are on the plastic cards, and has detailed instructions on how to assemble the model. Each section of the body (arms, legs, torso, head) is build separately, then all the pieces are assembled together at the end to create the final build. The instructions recommend punching each piece out as you need it, because they are all numbered on the plastic cards for identification. I followed this recommendation for the first half of the build, and for the second half I tried punching out all the pieces for each step at the beginning of the step. Having tried it both ways, I can say that doing it the recommended way works better because some of the parts are pretty small, and some are mirror images of each other. It’s much easier to punch out the one or two pieces you need than it is to try to go through a small pile to locate them.

When completed, the model has a good amount of articulation. It can be posed in a variety of ways, and remains stable. The interchangeable weapons include an Assault Rifle and Magnum. There is also a base stand that can be used if desired.

This model kit is well worth the retail price. It can be found at various online retailers for a reasonable $24-30 range. I look forward to seeing some of the larger sets as well, since this set is very detailed for the number of pieces it contains. It was fun putting together, and is great for a small display around the house or at work. Special thanks to SpruKits/Bandai for providing the product for review.

SprüKits To Produce Halo Model Kits

The press release is below! Special thanks to my friends at YodasNews for the heads up on these.

“SprüKits, the new poseable action figure model kits require NO GLUE, NO SCISSORS, NO PAINT. The next evolution in the original Japanese toymaker’s best-selling model kits, SprüKits are designed with the most advanced injection molding technology available, parts snap together without glue, paint or scissors, as is typically expected in a model kit. For beginners to those seeking an intense challenge, three different levels offer construction play for all skills with increased complexity and build time, delivering a larger figure with sharper details, increased articulation and poseability. From Batman, Superman, and the Joker, in total there are 13 characters from DC Comics, Microsoft’s Halo® and TV Tokyo’s mega hit LBX franchise. Prices range from $9.99 to $54.99.”

Will Steven Spielberg Stick With Halo?

With the departure of Don Mattrick from XBox, Fast Company is wondering if Steven Spielberg will stick with his plan to produce the upcoming Halo television series. Apparently he and Mattrick worked closely together in the past, which was one reason that Spielberg was so gung ho about the project. I doubt there’s anything to worry about, but on the other hand the project is still in very early stages and you know how fickle these Hollywood types can be. Click HERE to read the article.

Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn Earns Emmy Nomination

From Joystiq:

“Halo 4 live-action web-series Forward Unto Dawn is up for an Emmy – no, not a tech Emmy, the real primetime deal. It’s going up against the likes of HBO’s The Newsroom and CBS’ Elementary for this year’s Main Title Design honor.”

Click HERE for the rest of the story.

FUD gave us a glimpse of what a full-length Halo feature film might look like. The nomination is well-deserved, and hopefully will open the door for similar projects in the future, or perhaps even a feature film. No doubt its success resulted in the upcoming Halo television series being produced by Steven Spielberg.

“Halo 5″ Rumors Abound

idigitaltimes.com has a fun article about some new Halo 5 (or whatever you want to call the next Halo game for now) rumors. An anonymous person claiming to work for 343i has made a post and included a lot of info about the upcoming XBox One game. Keep in mind that more likely than not this is all bogus info. The only reason I’m even posting about it is that I think some of the ideas are good ones, and there’s a lack of any official info to enjoy at the moment. So here we go:

Campaign:
– Open world
– Master Chief has a ship to visit planets/missions in any order the player wishes
– Player will search for loot and armor upgrades to use (also to use in multilayer)

Multiplayer:
– Split into 2 sections
– One section is for regular 4-16 player games and is similar to the older games with no loadouts, armor abilities, etc.
– Second section will be large scale up to 64 players and will include armor abilities, loadouts, and such

Click HERE to read the full article. Like I said, most likely a fake, but hey, it actually sounds great to me.

SDCC First Look: Mega Bloks

It’s sneak preview night at San Diego Comic Con 2013, and we have the first in-hand look at Mega’s exclusive Halo mini figure for this year. This figure will likely also be given out at more conventions for the remainder of the year. Images are courtesy of Kevin Hurd via the Halo Collector Facebook Group.

SDCC First Look: ThreeA

ThreeA is new to the Halo license, but came out DMRs blazing earlier this year with their first two offerings, Carter from Noble Team and a Spartan commando. Now at SDCC they are going to show some new items according to their blog where these images were teased. It looks like their next two figures are going to be Emile from Noble Team and Master Chief himself. If their first two offerings were any indication, you can expect the quality on these to be top notch. Stay tuned to SpartanSwag.com for more images throughout SDCC 2013.
