“Have you ever wondered what happens to your heart rate when playing a game? Reddit user gortag did and decided to make it part of his PhD project looking into User Research to get a sample of his own heart rate while playing Halo: Reach.
Details are limited as we only have a Reddit thread to go by, but the image above, and the full map of his heart rate while playing is available to view on imgur.com.
The actual setup for capturing the data involved connecting a Polar brand exercise belt, which measures heart rate when worn, via a makeshift USB cable to a Macbook. The Processing programming language was then used to create a program for collecting the data.
The final data was put together to form the image with a bunch of screenshots of the game being played. The main correlation between heart rate and playing seems to be when armor lock occurs which has a calming influence, but we’ll let you make your own conclusions.”
